The Early Rider Bella Velio on Test
What is this? With its ultra-wide, spherical wheels, the eye-catching Early Rider Bella Velio looks like it couldn’t possibly tip over. Spoiler alert: it can.
This € 200 learning machine is supposed to help kids as young as ten months develop their first balancing skills on two wheels. The motto? “Start them young!” But here’s the twist: you don’t steer with the handlebars. Instead, the rear wheel turns automatically when the rider shifts their weight. The handlebar doesn’t move. It sounds smart and intuitive, but it goes against how kids will eventually need to steer a real bike.
To get the Bella Velio moving during our test, we needed to lend a hand using the included telescopic handle. Tiny riders are more passenger than pilot here. As stylish and well-made as this ride may be, its learning promise didn’t quite convince us. Also, the ball-shaped wheels are rather noisy indoors. Our tip? Wait a bit and go for a classic balance bike instead, with regular steering, standard tires, and a friendlier price tag.
Conclusion
The spacey Early Rider Bella Velio is a real head-turner on the playground with its spherical wheels, self-steering, premium build, and extravagant design. While the craftsmanship is solid, the unconventional concept doesn’t offer any clear learning advantage. Our take? Opt for a more classic – and affordable – balance bike. And until then? Just focus on learning to walk first.
