Cobblestone, unexpected downpours, emergency braking – a phone mount for bikes has to put up with a lot. We pushed 18 different phone mount models to their limits in tough, everyday riding conditions. From clever magnetic systems to finecky clamp mechanisms, we’ll show you which mounts impressed us with rock-solid stability and easy handling – and which ones you’re better off steering clear of.

18 models at a glance – but which one came out on top in our comparison test?

“Where do you put your smartphone?” It’s a question every cyclist has asked themselves at least once in their life – because these days, your phone is more than just a texting device. It’s your navigation system, your music player, and your camera, all rolled into one. Whether you’re commuting to work, weaving through traffic downtown, or heading out on your next gravel adventure, a solid phone mount is a must-have accessory. But which ones really keep your phone safe, even on rough cobbles and with sudden braking manoeuvres? And which ones actually make your day-to-day rides easier with intuitive handling and a good build quality?

The differences between models are surprisingly big. While some mounts focus on maximum versatility and are therefore compatible with a broad range of phones, others prioritise rock-solid connection for rough terrain and fast-paced rides. We tested a total of 18 phone mounts from 10 different manufacturers to find out which one suits your needs best – and what you should look out for before buying.

Table of contents

What really matters when choosing the right phone mount for your bike?

The right phone mount needs to do more than just hold your smartphone – it should make your everyday rides a more pleasant experience. First things first: will the mount actually fit your handlebars? And how tricky is it to install? Do you need tools – and if so, which ones? Also consider where you want to place it: on the handlebars or on the stem?

There are plenty of ways to mount a phone on a bike, so take a moment to figure out what works best for you and your setup. On many e-bikes, for example, the display unit may already take up space on the bars or stem, leaving limited room for additional accessories. It’s also worth checking whether the mount can be quickly removed and refitted to another bike – especially if you switch between different rides on a regular basis.

Checking compatibility is absolutely essential, especially with e-bikes! Does the display already take up the place where you would usually mount your phone?

A good phone mount should let you attach and remove your smartphone one-handedly – perfect for quickly checking directions, taking a photo, or skipping to the next track without fumbling around. Overly-complicated mechanisms that demand precise hand movements only add stress, especially in busy urban settings. And of course, stability is key: kerbs, rough roads, cobblestones and potholes shouldn’t turn into hazards. No one wants a mount that wobbles about – or worse, lets your phone fall off mid-ride.

If you switch between bikes on a regular basis, tool-free systems like those from Bone Collection are a practical option – they’re quick to fit and easy to remove. The trade-off? These solutions rarely enable the seamless integration of more fixed setups. Universal mounts ensure great versatility, but case-based systems like SP Connect provide a far more secure hold. They tend to be pricier and less compatible across devices, but the added peace of mind is really worth it.

Looks matter, too. A mount shouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb – it should blend in with your cockpit. Minimalist designs like the Loop Mount are a stylish choice for urban cyclists who appreciate clean aesthetics. And position plays a role too: do you want your navigation app right in your line of sight, or more discreetly tucked away on the stem? Portrait or landscape mode, charging access – your phone mount should adapt to your riding style, not the other way around.

Many systems also boast clever technical features and hard-wearing materials. If you’re looking for even more performance, extras like weatherproof covers or vibration-damping mounts can be a real game-changer.

The cases on test: From sleek, minimalist designs to rugged protective models – each one is tailored to its specific mount and plays a key role in overall stability and compatibility.

How we tested

What became clear early on in this test is that there’s no such thing as the perfect phone mount. – the requirements of different types of riders and situations are simply too varied. Commuters, touring riders and gravel adventurers all have different needs when it comes to securing their phones, and we wanted our test field to reflect that. To ensure fair comparison across the board, we tested all mounts using the same device – an iPhone 15 Pro – combined with the matching case for each system. That allowed us to put them through their paces under realistic, real-world conditions.

City commutes? Our test route included cobblestones, kerbs and stop-start traffic to evaluate stability and everyday usability. For urban adventures and weekend trips, we paid particular attention to how easy it was to mount and remove the phone on the fly – because when you want to snap a quick photo, the last thing you need is to wrestle with your setup.

And yes, we also took the holders off-road – though deliberately just on moderate gravel. Harsh trails and big drops aren’t the right place for a phone mount anyway. If you tackle the rough stuff, your phone is better off tucked away in a jersey pocket or hip pack.

At the end of the day, the best phone mount is the one that suits you and your riding style best. Whether you’re commuting, touring at the weekend or heading out on urban adventures, we’ve found a few clear favourites. In the next section, you’ll find out which ones made the cut.

Tops & Flops

Every phone mount has its strengths – and its compromises. Some models won us over straight away with clever details, effortless handling and rock-solid stability. In particular, the innovative magnetic and vacuum-based systems stood out for their intuitive operation and quick mounting. Your phone stays firmly in place without wobbling, yet can be released in seconds with a single hand – ideal for the typical stop-and-go scenarios of urban cycling.

But not every mount impressed across the board. Some offer excellent stability but involve a finicky installation with special tools, and aren’t that easy to remove from the bike once fitted. Others look great and blend seamlessly into the cockpit, but fall short in day-to-day use – often due to overly complex mechanisms or limited device compatibility.

The takeaway? There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. While some mounts shine with clever features and user-friendly design, others are better suited to specific use cases – and can quickly become a source of frustration outside their comfort zone.

Tops

The magnetic solution from FESCHD impressed with its secure hold and one-handed operation.
Mounted with one hand and offering full 360° rotation, the FIDLOCK VACUUM mount stands out for its intuitive handling and solid grip.
The product range from SP Connect proved to be one of the most versatile and reliable in the entire test field.
The Bosch SmartphoneGrip mount replaces the Kiox display and impresses with wireless charging and compatibility with almost all common smartphones.

Flops

secure? Yes – but neither the look nor the handling convinced us. The bulky mounting mechanism, the large branding on the case, and the adapter all feel outdated. On top of that, handling is fiddly and far from intuitive.
The rubber straps of Bone Collection’s Bike Tie mount stretch across the display and provide a secure, yet noticeably shaky connection. While the mount doesn’t require a dedicated case, that makes installation all the more fiddly.
Subtle, stylish and minimalist – the Loop Micro Mount blends seamlessly into the bike’s design. However, it requires two hands to operate, and you’ll need to be careful when removing your phone to avoid scratching it.
The Quad Lock Stem Mount sits securely, but can only be operated with two hands – which makes it less convenient to use on the fly.

FIDLOCK | VACUUM

The FIDLOCK VACUUM system: An innovative combination of magnet and suction cup.

The VACUUM model from German manufacturer FIDLOCK scores points with its innovative magnetic-vacuum system and high-quality build. At its core is a clever combination of magnetic force and a suction cup element, which enables a secure, intuitive attachment. The system is also impressively versatile, offering four different mounting options: the standard Handlebar Base and the tool-free Handlebar Base Flex for different handlebar diameters, the Ahead Cap Base for stem-mounting, and the Handlebar Base for GPS, which is compatible with existing Garmin mounts. Paired with the dedicated FIDLOCK case, the smartphone stays firmly in place – yet can be removed in a single motion.

The system impressed us throughout all our test rides. Attaching and removing the phone is so easy that it can be done almost without looking, with the 360° rotation mechanism ensuring maximum flexibility. A real bonus: the phone remains securely attached in all positions, even on rough terrain. The tool-free installation of the Flex variant using the flexible adjustment dial clamp, combined with the broad compatibility of the GPS mount, makes this system a great option for commuters, road cyclists and gravel riders alike – especially those who want to switch quickly between bikes.

Intuitive to use: The smartphone easily clicks into place – even without looking – and stays securely attached to the mount.
To remove the phone, simply press down the outer ring.

Conclusions

The FIDLOCK VACUUM mount impressed with a successful design that combines a magnet and a suction cup, offering intuitive handling paired with a secure hold. The flexible mounting options and the ability to secure the phone without having to look make it particularly practical for everyday use. For riders who value versatility and straightforward operation, FIDLOCK is the best phone mount in this test and rightfully earns the top spot!

SP Connect

The versatile SP Connect system in detail – robust, flexible, and suitable for a wide range of uses.

Austrian manufacturer SP Connect made a name for themselves with robust, versatile smartphone mounting solutions. Whether on a bike, motorbike or in the car, the system covers a wide range of mobility scenarios. At the heart of it all is the proven “twist-and-lock” mechanism, which keeps your phone securely in place – even on rough terrain.

Some bike manufacturers now even offer pre-installed SP Connect mounts on the cockpit of their city, trekking and eMTB models. With a range of options including the Handlebar Mount Pro, Micro Stem Mount and the MTB-specific version with built-in damping (Handlebar Mount Pro MTB), SP Connect covers a broad spectrum of mounting needs. That said, in our test, the MTB version offered only marginal gains in terms of vibration damping.

In our test, the different SP Connect mounts impressed us both in terms of stability and versatility. The twist-and-lock mechanism holds the smartphone securely in place and, with a little practice, is easy and intuitive to use. However, it does require enough space to complete the 90° twist needed to lock the phone in.

The extensive range of accessories – including weatherproof covers and special cases like the Phone Case Xtreme for Samsung and Apple – significantly broadens the system’s potential. With all that on offer, there’s nothing standing in the way of your next outdoor adventure.

Locked in with a simple twist: the twist-and-lock mechanism keeps the smartphone securely in place.
The SP Connect Handlebar Mount Pro MTB features integrated vibration damping, but offered only minimal benefit on rough cobblestone sections during our test.

Conclusions

SP Connect offer an extremely versatile system that suits virtually any type of use. The twist-and-lock mechanism keeps the smartphone securely in place, even on rough terrain, without the need for additional locking features. The only requirement is sufficient space to perform the 90° twist needed to engage the mount.

Another big plus is the extensive product range and accessories. Cyclists not only get a secure and reliable system, but one that can be expanded and customised to suit their outdoor needs. Our undisputed Best Buy Tip!

Bone Collection | Bike Tie

The Bone Collection Tie mounts – simple, made from flexible silicone, and easy to install without the need for tools.

With the Bike Tie Pro 4 and Tie 5, Bone Collection rely on a simple, universal concept made from flexible silicone. Both mounts can be installed without the need for tools, and are compatible with most smartphones. A key advantage: there’s no need for a dedicated case, and the mounts can be swapped between bikes in seconds.

The Pro 4 performed best when mounted on the stem, thanks to its reinforced surface, while the Tie 5 adapts to a range of handlebar widths. In our test, the elastic silicone provided just enough grip to handle cobblestones and kerbs. However, the phone wobbles like jelly – which doesn’t inspire much confidence and makes it less ideal for quick attach-and-detach use while riding.

The rubber straps also run across the display, limiting visibility. So if you’re hoping to take quick snaps or navigate on the fly, this mount might not be the most practical choice.

The Bike Tie 5 scores points with its flexibility for different handlebar widths…
… while the Pro 4 stands out with its secure surface, which makes it well-suited for mounting on the stem.

Conclusions

The Bone Collection Tie mounts are an affordable and flexible solution for occasional riders and commuters. Thetool-free installation and universal compatibility make them a practical choice for quick swaps between different bikes. However, for more demanding rides and longer tours, there are sleeker – and above all more secure – alternatives that offer greater ease of use and enhanced security.

Bosch | SmartphoneGrip

The Bosch SmartphoneGrip features built-in wireless charging.

The Bosch SmartphoneGrip is the successor to the well-known SmartphoneHub and is aimed exclusively at riders of cargo, city and SUV bikes with a Bosch motor. Compatible with current Kiox displays, the SmartphoneGrip replaces the standard Bosch display and allows you to use your smartphone as the bike’s central control unit.

In combination with the Bosch eBike Flow app, navigation and ride data are clearly displayed and can be conveniently controlled via the handlebar-mounted remote. You can find more on this topic in this article from our sister magazine E-MOUNTAINBIKE.

The smartphone is charged wirelessly while in the mount, and there’s also an integrated mini-USB port as an alternative – although a more modern USB-C connection would have been a better choice. The housing is made from high-quality plastic, and the rubberised contact surface keeps the phone securely in place without scratching it.
In this test, the SmartphoneGrip proved to be a reliable solution for everyday use. The phone sits firmly and securely. That said, according to Bosch’s own statement, the mount isn’t designed for rough trails and jumps.

Another plus: the Grip doesn’t require a dedicated case, which makes it compatible with a wide range of smartphones – as long as they fall within the specified dimensions. Supported devices must be 6.8–13 mm thick, 67–88 mm wide and 123–175 mm long. We had no issues using it with our iPhone 15 Pro.

The SmartphoneGrip is only compatible with the Kiox display mount.

Conclusions

For e-bike riders with a Bosch motor, the SmartphoneGrip is a genuine upgrade and a practical alternative to other mounts in the same price range that require a dedicated case. Despite not using a case, the mount holds the phone reliably and securely, while the built-in wireless charging keeps it topped up while riding. This makes the Bosch SmartphoneGrip especially useful for commuters who forgot to charge their phone beforehand, or for longer rides where you don’t want to carry a power bank.

FESCHD

Secure hold using only magnetic force – the FESCHD mount keeps the smartphone firmly in place.

The young German start-up FESCHD combines sustainability with functionality: the mount is made from recycled plastic and is entirely developed and produced in Germany. The system focuses on a single handlebar mount and is designed specifically for smartphones from Apple, Samsung and Google. However, with a universal 3M adhesive patch, it can be used with any phone case.

The mount itself features a strong magnet and a four-notch locking mechanism that securely holds the phone in place. For extra reassurance, an additional safety ring can be used if needed.

In our test, the mount left a secure and reliable impression. The smartphone stayed firmly in place – even on rough terrain – and could be removed with one hand and reattached without looking. That said, it’s important to ensure all four pins click securely into place with an audible snap. At 68 grams, it’s relatively heavy for a plastic mount, but the solid construction and simple mechanism make it a strong everyday option. The only downside: compared to other systems, the case feels less premium and is visually less appealing.

One-handed removal: the smartphone can be mounted without looking and released quickly.
A safety ring provides additional security when needed – and doubles as a grip for your fingers when not in use.

Conclusions

FESCHD impresses with an innovative, secure and intuitive mounting system that works reliably on any terrain thanks to the added safety ring. The strong magnet and dependable locking mechanism provide maximum stability, even on bumpy trails. If you’re not put off by the less refined look of the case, you’ll get a robust, sustainable solution that made it damn close to securing Best in Test.

Loop

The Loop Mount (shown here in black) for the handlebars and the Micro Mount (shown here in silver) for the stem cap both impress with their minimalist design and high-quality finish. Both versions are available in black and silver.

Loop emerged during the cycling boom of the pandemic years with a clear mission: create practical smartphone mounts for cyclists with a minimalist aesthetic. With its high-quality metal constructions, the brand offers two options – the Loop Mount for the handlebars and the Micro Mount for the stem cap. Both stand out at first glance for their clean, elegant design and universal usability.

The Loop Mount attaches directly to the handlebar and can be rotated 360°, allowing you to find the perfect angle for your phone. The Micro Mount, on the other hand, integrates discreetly into the stem cap for a sleek, uncluttered look.

In our test, both models impressed with a secure hold and high-quality craftsmanship.. When not in use, they remain unobtrusive, blending seamlessly into the bike’s overall design. One drawback, however: handling the phone is a bit fiddly, and you’ll definitely need two hands. And when removing the phone, there’s a risk of scratching the screen if you’re not careful.

The Loop Mount blends seamlessly into the design of modern bikes and offers a secure hold on the handlebars.
The silver Micro Mount integrates into the stem’s Ahead cap, delivering a clean and refined look.

Conclusions

With the Loop Mount and Micro Mount, Loop deliver arguably the most stylish solutions in the entire test field. The combination of premium design, stability and versatility makes them an ideal choice for riders who value a sleek, universally-compatible phone mount. A clear recommendation for design enthusiasts looking to upgrade their bike with a minimalist touch. That said, weight weenies and anyone after a quick and fuss-free solution may find better-suited options elsewhere in this test.

Peak Design | Out Front Bike Mount

High-quality craftsmanship meets smart design: the SlimLink case and Out Front Mount from Peak Design impress with premium build quality and an intuitive locking mechanism.

Peak Design, known for its high-end camera gear, stays true to its brand philosophy with its smartphone range: premium materials, clever engineering and elegant design. At the heart of the system is the manufacturer’s proprietary SlimLink technology, which combines magnetic attachment with a mechanical locking mechanism. The mount is paired with a high-quality case developed specifically for Apple iPhones, Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy models. With a nylon back and metal buttons, it’s the most premium-feeling case in this test – though it did begin to show signs of discolouration after just a few weeks, as it tends to absorb moisture and dirt quickly. On the plus side, it’s MagSafe-compatible and works seamlessly with Peak Design’s extensive accessory ecosystem.

During this test, the mount impressed us with its large contact surface, which provides a solid and secure connection – even when riding on rough terrain. Attaching the phone to the mount is straightforward, but removing it takes a bit of practice, as the locking mechanism requires precise handling. Still, the combination of magnetic force and mechanical safety offers excellent security. The system’s focus on quality and design makes it especially appealing to style-conscious riders, though the compatibility is limited to the supported smartphone models.

Conclusions

Peak Design deliver a premium, stylish solution for demanding cyclists. The combination of magnetic attachment and locking mechanism ensures maximum security, while the generous contact surface enables a secure fit. The elegant SlimLink case impresses with MagSafe compatibility and top-notch build quality. That said, the precise locking system makes it slightly trickier to remove the phone – but this only takes a bit of practice. With its versatile range of accessories and high-end materials, this setup is ideal for riders who are looking for a high quality, stylish phone mount.

Quad Lock

The Quad Lock system: cases, mounts, and a wide range of accessories – a versatile solution for many types of bikes and scenarios.

Quad Lock is one of the best-known names in the phone-mount business, and makes a well-thought-out system that connects your phone to your car, motorbike or bicycle using a single case. What really stands out is the wide range of mounting options available for both handlebars and stems. Quad Lock comes standard with anadhesive 3M patch, which makes it compatible with most phone cases, and thus incredibly versatile.

Installation is straightforward using a 4 mm Allen key that is included in the box, and multiple inserts to suit different handlebar diameters. The locking mechanism that secures the phone takes a little getting used to – the phone needs to be positioned precisely and twisted at the right angle to engage. But once you’ve got the hang of it, operation is smooth and reliable.

iPhone user also have the option to upgrade to a MagSafe-compatible case for a small additional cost. Combined with a broad range of accessories, Quad Lock is a great choice for commuters, touring riders, and anyone looking for a dependable, adaptable, and long-lasting mounting system.

A robust, high-quality mount that’s secured underneath the Ahead stem cap.
The smartphone sits securely – and after a bit of practice, the signature 90° twist to lock it in becomes easier.

Conclusions

Quad Lock use a sturdy locking mechanism to deliver a solid, secure system – even on rough terrain. Thanks to the universal connection interface, the same phone case can be used across multiple setups, whether it’s with a suction mount in the car or a handlebar mount on your bike. This makes Quad Lock a consistent, all-in-one solution for multiple vehicles. There’s also a wide range of accessories to choose from. However, the system takes a bit of practice to get used to – the locking and unlocking process isn’t as intuitive as others in this test, which slightly detracts from the overall experience. A more user-friendly design would have made it even better.

SKS Germany | COMPIT

The SKS COMPIT system: a budget-friendly, function-first solution with a more technical than stylish look.

SKS Germany’s COMPIT system is a budget-friendly smartphone mount solution that follows a similar principle to SP Connect and Quad Lock. The mount is installed at the intersection between the stem and handlebars, and comes standard with spacers to fit different handlebar diameters. There are also alternative versions available, such as the universal Velcro mount and a stem-mount option. The case features a distinctive cut-out design, which gives it a more technical and less stylish appearance.

In this test, the system proved secure once the smartphone was locked in place. However, the locking mechanism takes some getting used to, and removing the phone isn’t particularly intuitive – you have to press a small plastic lever, which can be a bit finicky. If you take your phone on and off the bike all the time, you’ll need a bit of patience. The materials also feel noticeably less premium compared to high-end systems like FIDLOCK and SP Connect. That said, for the lower price point, it gets the job done.

Secure but fiddly: locking and unlocking the smartphone in place requires patience and precise handling.
Easily mounted under the stem cap: the SKS COMPIT ensures a secure fit but looks rather bulky.

Conclusions

The SKS COMPIT system offers an affordable entry into the world of smartphone mounts and is a decent choice for urban riders looking for a simple everyday solution. However, the small plastic release pin quickly becomes frustrating, especially if you need to remove your phone frequently. If you value intuitive handling, high-quality materials and a sleek design, you’re better off looking elsewhere.

Topeak | RideCase

With the RideCase, Topeak deliver a well-designed all-in-one package.

With the RideCase, Taiwanese manufacturer Topeak offers a well-thought-out all-in-one system, which combines a high level of functionality and multiple mounting options. Unlike many competitors, Topeak provide a complete package: in addition to the smartphone case, both a handlebar mount and a stem mount are included in the box.

However, there’s a catch: the RideCase is only available for iPhones. Users of other phone brands will need to opt for the Omni RideCase – a rubber-based system similar to Bone’s, which is more flexible but less secure and less refined. The mount can be installed either in line with or perpendicular to the handlebar, and fits a range of bar diameters. To switch to stem mounting, simply remove the handlebar bracket and reposition it on the stem.

In our test, the RideCase impressed us with a secure fit and excellenty versatility across different mounting positions. The case offers solid protection, though its somewhat technical appearance may not appeal to style-conscious riders. On the plus side, it takes up very little space on the bars, making it an attractive choice for minimalist touring setups.

The mount can be installed either perpendicular or parallel to the handlebars and adjusted to fit different bar widths.
One mount, two options: the RideCase can be attached to the handlebar or mounted on the stem cap in place of the Ahead cap.

Conclusions

With the RideCase, Topeak deliver a versatile all-in-one system that is suitable for a wide range of uses and scenarios. The fact that you can mount the smartphone in various positions makes it especially practical. While the mounting solution isn’t quite as intuitive as those from other brands, it holds the phone securely in place. The case’s industrial look slightly detracts from the overall impression, but the RideCase remains a solid choice for riders looking for an affordable and reliable system.

Conclusions and key takeaways

1. From secure to fiddly: the range is huge

Our test clearly shows that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to smartphone mounts. While models like the FIDLOCK and SP Connect shine with intuitive handling and rock-solid connection, others – like the SKS COMPIT, Quad Lock, and Bone Tie – require a bit more patience. What really sets the top mounts apart is how quick and easy they are to use, especially when you’re on the move.

2. Compatibility is key to comfort

A mount is only as good as its fit. Case-based systems like those from SP Connect, Peak Design, and FESCHD are very secure but only compatible with specific smartphone models. Universal solutions like Bone Collection or Loop offer more flexibility, but often come with compromises in handling and security.

3. Innovative systems are raising the bar

Innovations such as FIDLOCK’s VACUUM technology or FESCHD’s magnetic mount impressed us with thoughtful details. One-handed operation, blind mounting and exceptional hold make them the best choice for riders who want both efficiency and peace of mind – even on rough terrain.

4. Accessories make all the difference

A strong ecosystem can seriously boost a mount’s everyday usefulness. SP Connect and Quad Lock stand out for their excellent multi-platform compatibility for cars, bikes and motorbikes. For e-bike users, Bosch deliver a well-integrated specialist solution with wireless charging and the Flow app, turning your smartphone into a full-featured on-board computer.

5. Style or function? Why not both?

Looks matter more than you might think. Mounts like the Loop Mount combine a sleek, minimalist design language with everyday practicality, proving the ideal companion for urban design lovers. Others, like the SKS COMPIT and Topeak RideCase, lean into a more techy, less modern look. If you want both style and performance, premium systems like Peak Designor FIDLOCK offer top-notch alternatives.

Commuters will appreciate quick, tool-free options like the FIDLOCK, while gravel and touring riders may prefer more rugged mounts with weatherproof covers and accessories. If you ride a bike with aBosch motor, the SmartphoneGrip offers seamless cockpit integration. Design-conscious cyclists will be drawn to minimalist solutions like the Loop Mount.
