Grizl – the name instantly evokes an image of a wild bear catching salmon in the Canadian wilderness. In contrast, “Daily” gives the Canyon Grizl:ONfly CF Daily a more practical, everyday character. This is exactly where Canyon positions its fully equipped e-gravel bike – for those who can’t decide whether they need a bike primarily for daily commuting or for bikepacking adventures.

To break down the personalities reflected in the bike’s name:
Daily-Mode: Everything you need on your way to work and through the daily hustle! For everyday needs, the bike is packed with practical features, including an integrated lighting system, aluminium mudguards, rack mounts, and theft protection – solutions designed for real-world commuting challenges.
Wild-Grizl-Mode: Time to step out of your comfort zone! This is where the Grizl unleashes its wild side – with the 40 mm suspension fork and the 45 mm wide Schwalbe Overland tires, built for gravel paths, forest trails, and multi-day bikepacking adventures. It’s a bike that calls for the outdoors, pulling you away from your desk and post-work couch routine. To back this up, it comes with some serious adventure-ready features.
What unites both modes is ON:Fly Mode: “ON” is Canyon-speak for ebike, while “Fly” signifies a lightweight ebike concept. This is achieved with a carbon frame (“CF”), and a 2.05 kg Bosch Performance Line SX motor, paired with a 400 Wh Bosch CompactTube battery. This results in a total weight of 17.68 kg, about 1 kg lighter than the test field average. Is this enough to claim the top spot in our test?
The personalities of daily practicality and off-road adventure come together with a price tag of € 5,499. Do they complement each other perfectly, or do they clash? Find out here!

The Canyon Grizl:ONfly CF Daily on Test – Wild Bear or Boring Commuter?
Whether vast forests or big cities, the Grizl feels at home in any habitat. Canyon’s E-Gravel bike makes no distinction when it comes to getting from A to B in comfort. The combination of a 40 mm suspension fork, a leaf-spring seatpost with 20 mm travel, and 45 mm Schwalbe Overland tires smooths out rough gravel paths and makes even cobblestones a non-issue. Alright, it doesn’t quite match the comfort beast of the test field, the Specialized Turbo Tero X 5.0. Compared to the Riese & Müller UBN Five Commute and the ROSE BACKROAD Plus EQ, you feel significantly fewer vibrations along your spine on bumpy terrain. Even the BMC URS AMP LT TWO’s clever MTT damping technology can’t quite match the Grizl’s comfort levels.

A key factor in this is the riding position – not as upright as on the Moustache Dimanche 29.4, but also not as aggressive as the Specialized Turbo Creo 2. Canyon finds the balanced middle ground: relaxed enough for long EuroVelo tours, yet active enough to tuck into the slipstream of a passing peloton. And if that peloton is too slow, you can easily pedal beyond the 25 km/h assistance limit. Here, it ranks just behind the lightweight BMC.

Whether weaving your way up through the pack, or carving long sweeping curves in the Dolomites, the Grizl handles it all with confidence. The balance between responsive steering and stable tracking creates an intuitive ride – a perfect metaphor for the overused concept of work-life balance. You hop on and think: “Yes, this just fits.” This harmonious ride quality is something the Grizl shares with the Specialized Turbo Creo 2. And when blasting down a fast descent, it delivers fun rather than fear, with confidence-inspiring handling. If you do need to slow down, the Shimano GRX two-piston brakes will reliably rein you in before the next junction, enhancing overall confidence and safety.

So, that’s the thrilling mountain descents covered, but how about everyday comfort? On the commute home from work, carrying a full load of groceries through the city park is no problem, thanks to the integrated rack mounts – the Daily Mode. For dedicated commuters, Ortlieb panniers with the Quick-Lock 3.1 system are worth checking out. They’re compatible with Canyon’s rack system, requiring only the installation of the included adaptors. This system offers improved stability and an easy handling experience. With a maximum load of 15 kg, you’re not limited – 7.5 kg of potatoes, apples, or pears per side? No problem. Tip: If you use large rear panniers, make sure they don’t block the integrated taillights on the seat stays.
To secure your bike outside your city centre apartment, Canyon has thought of everything and included the Bosch ConnectModule. It’s not a replacement for a traditional lock, but it’s the perfect complement. Through the Bosch eBike Flow App, you can GPS-track your bike in real time. If someone moves it without permission, you’ll receive an alert and can activate an alarm to scare off thieves.
Rainy and cold Berlin mornings? Roads still damp from the night before? No problem! To keep your legs as dry as possible at the office, the integrated mudguards shield you from splashes, while seamlessly blending into the clean design. Riding in the dark? The lighting system illuminates the road like a floodlight. A centrally placed handlebar button offers three pre-set modes (low beam, brighter low beam, and high beam) and turns the lights off when held down. Simple, smart, and practical for daily use!

If panniers feel like overkill and you prefer to travel light, the Canyon LOAD FidLock QuickLoader frame bag is the ideal solution. It attaches in seconds and is just as quickly removed – perfect for carrying a wallet, garage key, or essentials for a spontaneous trip to the pool. A small towel, swimming trunks, and sunscreen? It all fits!
Now, from the pool to the ultimate goal – jumping into Lake Garda after crossing the Alps. The only problem? Your tour-planning buddy takes “Bike & Hike” a little too seriously. With a weight of around 18 kg, the Canyon Grizl:ONfly CF Daily isn’t exactly the first choice for carrying over mountain passes. That said, with some DIY adjustments, you can activate Wild Grizl Mode – goodbye rack and mudguards! This transforms the Grizl Daily into something 2 kg lighter, almost like the Canyon Grizl:ONfly CF 9. Well, almost. The Daily makes some trade-offs in the brakes and drivetrain compared to its wilder sibling, which is reflected in the price difference. However, without the fenders, you can fit tires up to 50 mm wide – which doesn’t reduce weight but boosts off-road performance and comfort, making it better suited for rough, rocky trails and muddy paths. The everyday workhorse transforms into a reliable adventure companion.

ON:Fly Mode: The Bosch Performance Line SX motor with 55 Nm of torque provides smooth, quiet assistance, seamlessly transitioning between commuting and epic e-gravel rides. However, the SX performs best at higher cadences, so if you’re lazy with shifting or pedaling, you won’t unlock its full potential. But once you get the hang of it? You get a flying Grizzly… er, a flying Grizl:ONfly Daily! For riders who see their daily commute as a workout, the motor seamlessly blends with your effort. The Bosch Performance Line SX motor sits right between the fitness-oriented TQ motor in the BMC URS AMP LT TWO and the powerful Shimano EP8 in the ROSE BACKROAD Plus EQ. The Canyon is powered by a 400 Wh Bosch CompactTube battery, which is not removable. As long as you’re not constantly riding in TURBO mode – the most powerful of the four assistance levels (ECO, TOUR, eMTB, TURBO) – the battery easily lasts for our daily commuting test.
For longer tours, there’s the optional Bosch PowerMore Range Extender, which boosts battery capacity by 250 Wh – perfect for unexpected detours on bikepacking adventures. It’s mounted using a special rail on one of the two bottle cage mounts, which can otherwise provide space for a multitool or other gear. One drawback: The Grizl lacks a kickstand mount. After a long bikepacking adventure or a grocery run, you’ll need to get creative when parking it.

Balance: The two personalities of the Canyon Grizl:ONfly CF Daily blend seamlessly.
This e-gravel bike effortlessly balances daily routine with untamed adventure – and that unique combination of practicality and thrill makes the Canyon Grizl:ONfly CF Daily our well-deserved test winner.
